This works in English because it is World War 1. In French ,for example, if they translated WW1 they would have GM1 and they don't call it like that. Americans put the month first so how convenient that it was 11/11/1918, as a day later for the majority of earth's inhabitants it would be 12/11/1918 so what he is trying to tell us would not have worked. Sometimes looking too hard for hidden meanings does not make much sense.
